Kouzuki Kallen – 1/8 PVC (Alpha Omega)
Just announced recently is a new project by Alpha Omega, a collaborative effort by Alter and Megahouse, that takes a look at none other than Kallen from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. To my knowledge, this is looking like the first time a sculpt of Kallen’s popular Babel Tower bunny girl outfit’s been produced for consumers. However, I’m disappointed to have to admit that the promotional photos seem to indicate that this will be a mixed bag affair. Granted this costume’s already made the rounds in various doujin works to varying degrees of awesome and win, this very first attempt at trying to breathe a third dimension into it rubs off as being sorta bland to me.
First things first, I have no qualms about the way pose that the sculptor, Hiroshi Inagaki, chose for Kallen in this release. Admittedly there’s been a ton of bunny girl-themed releases (largely due to the massive popularity of the girls from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya), so figure aficionados have probably seen pretty much everything a bunny girl can be seen doing without being an ero release. Kallen herself has the slightly off-center leaning-to-one-side kneeling dodge thing going on like she’s about to swerve past a disgruntled casino floor manager’s backhand pimp slap. The finer details of her costume including the side ribbons, her bowtie, etc. are all there so there’s not much to gripe about in terms of accuracy…
…except when you start talking about the paint job. I mean, is it just me, or is the whole thing too PINK?
The original color scheme calls for something a bit more darker like violet and less bright like say process magenta (which for you web color folk is #FF0090). If I’m plunking down full price for a figure I’ll be damn sure to be completely satisfied before punching out for a receipt. Looks like I’m still waiting for that MUST HAVE Kallen figure; and it’s been nearly two whole years now since the first season premiered!
