Criminal Prosecution Has Never Been More Fabulous
While Capcom’s Ace Attorney / Gyakuten Saiban series has a pair of awesome lead characters in Phoenix Wright / Ryuuichi Naruhodou and Apollo Justice / Housuke Odoroki, fans can’t deny that the various prosecutors you square off against over the course of the series are pretty awesome themselves. So awesome in fact, that Capcom announced back in April that a spinoff to the series starring none other than Miles Edgeworth / Reiji MItsurugi, Phoenix’s original and biggest rival in court, would be hitting the DS in the near future. Now that a few months have come and gone since the news broke, Capcom’s ready to confirm that the new project, Gyakuten Kenji (Turnabout Prosecutor) has a tentative ship date set for some time in Spring 2009.
Along with announcing a clearer timeframe for the game’s release, Capcom has also provided screenshots of Edgeworth’s first case. Currently, it looks as if most of the action this time won’t be in court, but rather at the crime scene itself where Edgeworth (and the player) will be pointing out contradictions during the collection and analysis of evidence. Instead, a new character to the series, the rather flamboyant Makoto Yuuki, will be taking charge of leading the prosecution’s efforts.
While I’m thrilled that Edgeworth is back and with top billing to boot, I’m a little perturbed as to the new role you’re being thrust into as an investigator along with Dick Gumshoe / Keisuke Itonokogiri. I mean, the title of the game itself would suggest that you get to dole out the pain in court and not merely critique the inept forensics staff and coroners… In any case, we’ll no doubt be seeing more of Gyakuten Kenji at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
